Who let the dogs out? :)

We are back after a wonderful trip to see Casey and family in Maui. And, what is this with daughter saying we are big dogs? 🙂 She is a chip off the old block though, isn’t she? We told the families with reservations down that we would be gone but did not want to tell the “world wide web” we were going.

I had the most relaxing, trip with nothing on the to do list but ocean, sand, books, and meetings with Casey and his family, MaryLou and William.

Jeff played and snorkeled in the Ocean as time permitted. I was offered a job, one I still seriously am pondering. I wonder how many people go and then don’t want to come home? 🙂 But, I have to ask our dogs what they think about island living. Reality is we love Oregon as our home, with the change of seasons, gardening, rivers, farmland, and forests. Maui will be our favorite vacation spot for now.

We ate! I have gained weight with all the food, fresh fish, and wonderful food. I will also share all about where we stayed, which was amazing. I just want to get the links together.

We were invited to watch Casey at action at the his hospital and he was wonderful. I took many pictures, but to honor the residents, I did not take any of Casey “working”. Casey was a honey!  Marylou has really done a wonderful job with him and he spends time working at the hospital with both staff and residents as well as running through his huge yard and home in the upcountry area. He has two baskets of toys, one upstairs and one downstairs, as well as a chair he shares with the family. He also prefers his water in a tall plastic cup to his water bowl. Marylou thought he “came that way” but no, we said, that was a first for us to see. 🙂

He has that all knowing, reading ability of all good therapy and assistive dogs, what I call “the old soul” look and he is always watching Marylou and giving love in a gentle or playful or loving manner; something he is just naturally aware of as he visits. He think he knew us and played with us, eager to show us what he has learned and his favorite toys. He could hardly wait until I sat down to jump in my lap. I got him first, and Jeff was next to share a lap and hug and then some kisses.

I am so proud of him and his family and I feel so blessed to have dogs that bring such sunshine to others. Truly a wonderful match.

Tonight we work on unpacking, laundry, mail piles, email, and socialize puppies. Stay tuned for pictures coming tomorrow!
