Selecting your groomer

◦next to your vet, this is very important in my book. Some groomers just don’t get the doodle do! This is an old page I am moving over.

Grooming Hints

The most difficult thing I had to do when I was a new first time Labradoodle owner many years ago was find some resources I could give my groomer to do the right “doodle do”.

There are some good links and articles on doing to do now adays, but the easiest is to tell a professional groomer “think sheepdog NOT poodle”.  I have some grooming sheets and pictures for you to give to the groomer that will come in your doodle packet.  I think finally labradoodles and their cut are becoming more common.

I personally HATE when they put the bow in my girls hair and trim them like poodles. Teddy Bears I tell them, and they give me back a short fluffy pom pom tail frenchie. The tail cut as a pom pom on a labradoodle makes me think of dog on the How the Grinch stole Christmas. I went home and shaved it off and poured a glass of wine and called more friends looking for groomer recommendations.

My most disappointed grooming venture happened when both our girls went in after whelping and they had horrible cuts! I wanted them to be trimmed up so the new owners coming could see what their puppies would look like. Even with my endless discussions with our regular groomer it seems they had a new groomer in and she did not read my instructions I had left in both their files. I will know make sure that every time I take them in; they go with a copy of the instructions. The good news is “it will grow back”.

Finding a good groomer is difficult. When you find one you also have to read if your puppy likes them. Even if the puppies look perfect; if the puppies hate the groomer DON’T go back, trust your dog. Labradoodles know things 🙂 . When you find a good groomer, tip them; buy them presents on the holidays; learn their name and visit with them. Bring them goodies.
