One Week Old!

Happy First Week, baby doodles! This week went by smoothly, with Daisy settling right into motherhood and the whelp growing very chubby as they prepare for eye opening, which typically begins around the 10th day with our doodles. Daisy is a very good mom, and is settled into her routine with the puppies, which will continue until around the 3rd week, where they will not need as much warmth and constant feeding.

This first to second week is still very important, as a sleeping puppy is a developing puppy. They are crawling very well and doing more “puppy piling” and what I can the coordinated “pump” nursing, where they use their paws in a rhythm to help them get more milk, a natural instinct that usually one puppy starts, and the other senses the rhythm.

They are still under a heat lamp, which casts bright color and a bit of yellow to the photos, but warmth is very important to help them digest as well as stay warm.
