Daisy’s litter is here! First litter at Doodle Acres!

Daisy was showing signs last night, Jeff took the evening shift and I took over at 3 AM. Hard labor started at 8:30 AM. The first boy, a blocky creme with mismarks was born at  9:55 AM and came out hungry! He attached to the milk bar even before he was fully out.  The next puppy was a girl, nice size, looks to be an apricot or carmel with a cute mismark on her head; and looks to be a wavy fleece. The second girl followed at 10:57, a creme also mismarked, with a very wavy coat. Daisy rested for a while until the second horn was ready. Dogs have two “wombs” called horns, and one horn is delivered, follow by the other usually. At 11:15 what looks to be a red boy came, very quickly and while Daisy was standing up. He remain attached for a about 3 minutes also eatting at the milk bar. The last puppy, a red boy with white mismarks arrived at 11:21 AM.

They are all about the same size and filling up at the milk bar, Daisy smiling and a very attentive mother. She was just stunning and what we would call a text book whelp. Usually there is more of a break in between and Jeff and I think this could have beat Belle’s best time and whelp. They are settling in, snug as a bug in a rug as they say. Right now is time to dry, clean, nurse, sleep, then nurse some more.

Right now, all is right with the world for Jeff and I at our new home with our first litter born here. We were texting our daughter and future son in law as we went. Andrew said at the end, Ah, Daisy looks so happy. That is who Daisy is, a born nurturer and mother and so happy right now. Soon, she will want everyone to “see what I did”, “have you ever seen anything so cute?”…that is what is in her eyes and you can also read it in her wag.

Now, to hear what theme and names will be chosen for the whelp names while they are here. We prefer to give our puppies names instead of the impersonal “red collar boy”.

Of course more photos and video coming, but for now, Jeff and I take a moment and watch and rest and wonder at it all. Happy Birthday doodles! Welcome to the world!

Happy Birthday Doodles!
