Belle’s January Litter Planning & Updates

I revised the webpage (www.libertylabradoodles.com) for the new year and put it up last night. There is still much to do on it; but I have really changed the structure and code so that older internet browsers will not “scramble” the site. I hope you enjoy it and if there are any typos or problems please let me know. I am going to next work on the Liberty Labradoodle puppy resource site and will email out all my puppy owners when it is done. Each puppy gets their own page and it will be organized by litter so you can view what is up with your pup’s litter mates.

Liberty’s Chase went in this morning for his first hip x-ray. I know I have a good vet when they enjoy going! Then again, I think Chase has never met anyone that he did not like. J He is a lover that one…

Liberty Belle’s expected whelp date is January 28th from date of first mating. She goes in for pregnancy x-rays the second week in January to check on the embryos development and we will try to take a picture of the x-ray to post as we have in the past. We usually can get a count of puppies at that time so we can let people know how many is expected. We have one reservation at this time for this litter.

It is now very easy to feel the puppies and she is getting larger. The embryos (foetuses in the canine world) are now fully developed, walnut sized miniature dogs. It is always amazing to me that they develop from sperm to puppy in just 2 months!! We have a resource that tracks what is going on from mating until delivery called a canine calculator and we put it on our calendar.

Jeff and I had a very good discussion on our kennel goals and planning this weekend, along with other “new years thinking”. We are on the same page which is always a good thing. We are having three litters this year and will retire Liberty after the last litter. We will continue to focus on outstanding companion pet Multi-generational Australian Labradoodles; large mini to small medium in size with health temperament and mismarks or focus, in that order. We will stay small and continue to focus on home whelp and socialization to give them their best foot forward.

I worked on the “litter calendar” to prepare for the puppies this weekend as well. This is my estimated puppy development calendar from the expected whelp date to 8 weeks. We should see eyes open and teething start on Feb. 8th with walking starting around the 12th. We will introduce food around Feb. 21st and we should have the puppy placement announcements around that time. We will plan on the first shots around March 10th. De-sexing will be planned around March 17th and expected date of possible leaving our home to their new home will be around March 24th. Of course, this is all just ballpark as it depends on the actual date of whelp, the puppies own development, etc. but I wanted to give you the dates so you can also enjoy the development of the litter. We are also planning on the puppy cam being online which I am going to get hooked up once we get the whelp area set up again.

We are planning on incorporating more of the Monks of New Skete theories in our breeding program so that is being planned in our puppy development calendar as well.

~Here’s to a new year, I think we are ready for it! Hope you are as well.

Vicky
