Butter, Hunk and then Casey (Snickers) turned two weeks this weekend. We had some wonderful evening light through the window for their two week photos.
We had visitors, including Jory’s family who came to see the puppies and Jory now that their eyes are opening. The girls got some floor time for the first time where Hunk was being held and was very comfortable and fell asleep. More floor time is coming as this week they try out there legs. Their first floor time they are exposed to hard floor as well as area carpet. They typically huddle and not venture which will change soon enough.
They have easily tripled in size and the whelp box, some call a nesting box, will in 2 weeks will be small for the three and Daisy. This week we will have standing and beginning to walk as their eyes become more clear and they make sense of what they are seeing. Ears will begin to open this week and it is always fun to catch when one puppy makes noise then is startled by their own voice. Three weeks we get the walk going and typically we get the start to run but not know how to stop. 🙂 The next few weeks pictures will be slowly replaced with videos as they get faster and photos are harder to take.
Between this time we switch over to the puppy play pen, a bigger area with room to stretch but still be contained. They are then introduced to a shallow bowl of water, a you go dog potty training tray and a crate with no top. The crate is like a fort and they will naturally sleep together there. This is they way we transition them to crate training in later weeks.
For now, we will say a slow good bye to the neonatal period as the whelp turns into puppy. We just have to wait for their hearing this week. And then hello to the social period as we watch the newborns become puppies.
