Say Hello to the Candy Bar Litter

The theme for this litter is “the Candy Bar” litter.
For those that do not know Jory lives in a guardian home. What this means is she is our “breeding doodle” but lives full time as a pet with her family, coming to “grandma and grandpa” for visits, slumber parties and whelp.
When she retires as a breeding female (usually after 3 whelps) she has her forever home. This works well as we have our retired girls here with us as well as two of our studs. Our two studs live together happily, but we don’t want to “stir it up” with having our breeding girls in season around them until it is go time for doodling.
We let the guardian home pick the theme and names for the litter. Jory’s family has selected “candy bar litter” as a theme and the names Butterfinger, Snickers, and Big Hunk. We have always themed our litters so when the forever home gives them a forever name and years later we have 12 Daisy names (no we don’t have 12, but just to give you an idea), I can say to Jeff remember… that Daisy was Mocha from the coffee drink litter. It works for us as we have maintained contact with many of our puppies.
Jory is her official registered name and Liberty’s Jory is named after the soil we have on our little farm, which is the soil of choice for wine vineyards. Her family calls her Daisy as her pet name. See what I mean? We have duplicates of Izzy, Shilo, Daisy, Lilo, Teddy which works and fits the puppy.
Which now brings me to explaining the “birth name” verses their forever name. We don’t call them “blue collar boy” or Boy 1, Girl 2, etc. as we feel strongly about giving them a name to develop that social relationship with people and dog from birth. We expect them to be renamed but while with us we have this name so it is more personal. Once their forever home decides on their name we use that. Typically we ask our puppy owners to wait until their eyes, ears open and you start seeing more of their personality. Jeff and I know our dogs and our lines and can tell from the way they approach the milk bar or act who will be who in the pack order. But here they are only one day old and as usual, I am getting ahead of myself.
