I love Blossoms!

Liberty’s Blossom (Daisy) is, well, blossoming! We expect to be on whelp watch around March 12th to 14th. All the puppies from this litter are reserved at this time. Here is a photo from her last litter at 2 weeks:

Izzy was here visiting as her guardian home “went on a walkabout” last week.  She enjoys visiting the other doodles here at doodle acres and Chief wonders if he is being “called to action”.  Izzy gives him a “check yourself mister” when he goes to take stock of the situation and he realizes it is just a doodle romp. We just had word that she has come into season yesterday so she will be visiting again in the near future. There is room in this litter at this time. Here is a photo from their last litter:

Izzy is a great mom!

Liam has had a few litters now and we had an email from one of his puppy owners on how handsome he is. 🙂  He was breed outside of our program, but it is still nice to hear how our prodigy are developing.

We have been pondering the layout of our gardens and doodle run area, along with what I am calling the puppy play yard. For valentine’s day Jeff gave me mushroom compost, which is what I really wanted! I worked in the garden yesterday cleaning out the winter weeds, pondering the rotation of plants and can’t wait to have some time to put into flowers. This weekend we worked on the puppy play yard fence. Blossom (pet name Daisy) was supervising the construction.  Here is a  sneak peak in what is coming. I put the white post top on for a visual. Jeff is so handy! I had a clear idea of the “swoop” of the fence and I just love what it will look like. The puppies will have the best view of our little valley.

Puppy Play yard

At our old house Jeff built me a greenhouse and I am really missing it here. Our to do list is so long and I am afraid the greenhouse is not at the top, so I purchased a little plastic zip cover on a metal frame last year that worked great but was on the small side. I found later that we were so busy with remodel projects and doodles that the size actually ended up being alright. Just like cooking, I was still planting for a family of 4!

I am one of those people that love to garden and it is not a chore but rather a time to rest the soul and watch things grow that you tend. I think it is the same way with our doodle babies.

Banner is coming along and his testing is almost complete. I need some alone time with him for lessons and am looking forward to my puppy play yard being the spot I can work with him. When I try with the whole doodle gang, everyone wants to get in the act, especially as they know I have treats for rewarding Banner! He is a honey and he and Chief are great friends running the fence perimeter and jumping/dodging after each other. He also plays with Libby and I love watching him roll over and submit to her when he has to much energy. I think she enjoys it as well since Belle likes to be queen and Chief as I recall has never submitted to her. Belle yes, Libby, no. Banner is bigger and here is Libby standing over him, he is in a sense, honoring her and she loves it.

Our daughter and son in law have moved in for a bit as they lost their lease in Portland and are both in college. Our small old ranch house just got a bit smaller! They have agreed to help around doodle acres with the next wave of tree planting, the vineyard layout and the doodles. Daisy is now not just visiting “Grandma and Grandpa” but is in the next bedroom. It poised a bit of a dilemma for her as everyone headed off to bed, she went to our bed, then to theirs, then to ours. You could read on her face the slight confusion. Our other doodles like the couch or their crates and I was raised with a dog in my bed, Jeff was not. Daisy helped win him over. 🙂

We are busy getting things done around the house as we prepare for Daisy’s litter with what we hope will be Izzy following. My mom is making her “puppy quilts” for her great great granddoodle puppies. More coming soon!
