When making an emergency plan, don’t forget your pets!

You never know when disaster might strike, which is why there’s never a better time than now to plan. I found this article from Portland General Electric newsletter as we prepare for typical winter power outages. PGE was talking about the importance of preparing for emergencies and had a small blurb on not forgetting the pets. There are many other good articles out there this was one that I just came across.
Planning for Pets
Emergencies are by nature unpredictable, which is why it is best to have a plan that includes your safety as well as that of your loved ones – including pets and/or livestock.
Evacuation routes
If a disaster calls for evacuation, know the best route for your pet and yourself. Practice your evacuation plan ahead of time with your family so everyone can react quickly and safely – and help take care of pets — in an emergency.
Augmenting kits for pets
Emergency kits are created to address survival needs. In addition to the things that belong in a personal kit, think of things pets need to survive.
