Daisy is a natural mom falling into her role with ease and ingrained knowing. Very attentive and so proud, you can see her smile at anyone that wants to see her pups and she gives the look of “aren’t they cute? Why yes, they are mine”. It is so all in the eyes for me and why I love my doodles so much.
They are sleeping and eatting and plumping up. We handle them with Daisy’s approval and just watch them wondering who they will be as they develop. We calendar out expected milestones, nail clippings, shots, and things to expose them to early on to develop them into a well round/exposed puppy. We wait, as all good breeders should, to see who they are pack order wise, personality wise to let them be all they can be. And again we marvel at the fact that in 2 months they went from a gleem in Chief’s eye to a newborn puppy. And in 8 weeks, they are fully developed. Always just amazing! Right now, they sleep, they eat, they flinch in their dreams as they continue growing. Around 10 days of age their eyes will begin to open. After that, they will begin to hear. Born only with sense of smell, they learn to go to mom and learn to be vocal (even though they can’t hear themselves) so mom knows where they are. Nature and Nuture all playing together.
Our Daughter (and Daisy’s “mom”) has officially named the whelp. After much study, she announced…The theme is “Charlie Brown”. In whelp order, here is the whelp names (as we prefer to have names to boy 1, boy 2, etc.).
- Boy 1 is Charlie Brown “Charlie”
- Girl 1 (second born) is Sally Brown “Sally”
- Girl 2 (third born) is Lucy (the doctor is in 🙂 )..
“Lucy” - Boy 2 (fourth born) is Snoopy
- and Boy 3 (fifth born) is Linus
Muse is coming along nicely and I think she will be ready to whelp this weekend. After the whelp she and her puppies will head back to her foster family. As this is Muse’s first whelp I wanted to be sure that Jeff could take her through it; with me as whelper helper fretting but offering suggestions. Jeff has this natural way about him that is so calming, honest, and loving all at the same time. I am a lover, nuturer and the one who worries and must sleep next to them, even though Jeff thinks they are fine.. but what if…
So the little spirits are well watched over. The next couple of weeks will hold a host of life ventures and lessons. But, I will stop here and go load the camera for some shots of doodles in the making. I plan on getting tennis balls so the Charlie Brown Gang can at least win one baseball game…
