Week 3

At this week we introduce water to the baby doodles in a small shallow dish.

They typically begin to imitate mom and this is the start of moving them from the milk bar to “take out”.  Near the end of the week or beginning of next we will introduce puppy mush.

The puppies move to the puppy play pen and we introduce a flight crate without the door which is a play house for them now but also helps them get comfortable with crate training and if any might be flying.

More toys are introduced that will challenge their developing minds and they continue to be handled daily.

On a more persnal note, Belle today allowed Grandma Libby in to the whelp box (Grandma is in seventh heaven!). Libby was on her best behavior of course, and did her classic “prentend to nurse” between licking all the puppies.

Chief is allowed to look at his babies from the whelp pen side. He really wants to play with them now they are moving around but as any good husband should, he listens and awaits the cues from his mate.

As of this posting, as in right now; Belle  has started feeding them standing up; a sign she thinks they need to work for their food.

Ah, the parents teaching children independance! This is also a sign that we are to prepare the mush as we get ready to stay up with the puppy rites of passage.

Hello week three; that growing into stage of really “trying out your legs” and finding your voice.

So, here we are; week three and more of the puppies “soul” starts showing as they become more vocal, more mobile, more of a puppy dog.
