5 Weeks, Hello Transition Week!

Cinnie and Banner’s puppies at 5 Weeks old! I added tons of pictures to their gallery for their 5 week visit. This last week they were introduced to puppy meat mixed in with their rice and milk supplement  and they woofed (pun intended!) it down! A very sticky mess and they lick each other when the pan is finished. While I was there, they followed up that meal with a visit to the milk bar.  First bath is coming very soon!

They all have lots of sharp little puppy teeth and Cinnie has turned to standing and shorter sessions on the milk bar, a sign that she is getting ready to wean them. This week also we see their personality emerge even more as their world gets even bigger and they become less mommy puppies and more exploring with their little puppy pack and trying new adventures. They have more time outside and Cinnie leaves them alone a bit longer each time. Much of the time they are in the puppy play pen (the wire pen) in the backyard not only to keep them together but also to keep their itty bitty girl from picking them up too much. 🙂 She loves her puppies!

Cinnie will also now move into another role and that will be one of teaching the puppies manners.

As they play with each other she may see one being to bossy and make a correction or two to remind them who is still in charge. This is important to the puppies development and they all mind as they figure out their own puppy pack order. We further this a bit more when they are older and introduce them to our doodles to get a good “imprint” on everyone getting along.

This is also the week where the eye guard hairs grow into their eyes and they need their first mini grooming. Tonight I am taking my handheld trimmers and will be doing that later on today, along with a “bottom” trim and finishing with a puppy nail trim. It makes it a bit harder as they are not here with us yet, but the puppies are getting such great handling and kid exposure it  is so worth it. 🙂

This next weekend will be puppy visits for some of the puppy owners, with two puppies available at this time from this litter. Saturday we have a family from the east coast visiting for a family reunion and on the wait list coming to pick their puppy and right now I am thinking that Samantha and Steve are available. They will be ready to go to their forever home after the second week in September.  Carrie will be staying with us while their family is in the middle of a move in Arizona, leaving in early October.

The following week we typically see more weaning, more puppy personality, more playing and finding toys and running and more plumping up as they eat puppy wet food with some dry kibble mixed in.

Enjoy week 5 visit pictures below!
