5 Doodles coming according to XRay!

Our visit with the vet went well; Daisy (official name is Liberty’s Blossom) is healthy, sweet as can be, and the xrays show 5 puppies waiting to doodle on the ground! She had five puppies the last time and her litter had the Charlie Brown theme. We are awaiting the theme our daughter will be picking for this litter. I had suggested something about farm, like Charlotte’s web or Babe since this will be the very first litter on the farm. Our daughter promptly stated Daisy is a city girl that just likes to visit the farm. :).

After our visit our most awesome vet, and being assured he is available by phone if we need him, we ran some errands in town then came home to the Rose Bowl watching with friends and work on the details of preparing for whelp.

Taking out and washing towels, blankets, preparing our supplies, we also bring in the puppy nesting/whelp box. Daisy climbs in and out of the box, as did Belle and Libby.  Although Belle and Libby are retired they still have to investigate as female members of her pack. Chief smelled the box but he knows that he is not allowed in. Not by us, but all the girls nose him away. Love to watch the dynamics of the two mother hens laying down the rules for the “men folk”.  Libby seems delighted, and has a little spring in her step as she senses what is coming. Libby has been known for climbing in and pretending to nurse once the momma allows her in. She is such a caretaker of puppies!

Daisy will be in the guest bedroom when the time comes, but right now needs her humans. Doodles are very social and crave human interaction and laps. Daisy sleeps in bed with our Daughter so she does at our house at well until the time comes, then her focus will switch to the newborns, or “whelp” in dog speak. If it was the firstmate (or  knot) that took, her whelp is safe to be born as of today, but should really be due at the end of the week. The puppies are all formed, bones look good, all the same size and are doing the final growing in one of the two wombs, or “horns” in dog speak, that Daisy has. Typically it will be one puppy that kicks off the labor and his “womb mates” in that horn will be born first, followed by the second.

The one thing I have yet to find with the unpack is my little video camera, but I am looking. We are in  boxes still awaiting our remodel for later down the road so we are trying not to move to much in as we will have to just box and move back out to storage during the remodel.

Hopefully I will find it so we can video the whelp and post it.

So, as my puppy owners know, the xray starts a new category for Liberty Labradoodles, and is the opening picture of the folder that will hold the puppies from birth until they leave the nest. Then as they grow I try to keep the tagged.

Looking forward to wishing them all Happy Birthday!
