I went and visited the 4 week olds and took some pictures of their first time outside and on the grass. 🙂 They are put in an xpen, which is a folding portable pen you can set up and coral the puppies but still have room for them to explore. They learn what the metal taste like and bump into the fence a bit as they have yet another first of not having walls, but a fence to figure out.
Lots of firsts going on this week as they also ate puppy mush, a rice mixture that first they walked through then lapped up. This leaves them very sticky but also prepares them for what is coming. The puppies have their puppy teeth coming in, all of them are teething and Carrie and Aiden are the first with teeth showing. My camera then decided to not work, so I will be uploading other photos I took on my phone.
This weekend they will get a bit of puppy meat ground up as they start the transition to food from the milk bar, slowly moving from the mush to canned puppy food. Nail trims will be in order along with finally Cinnie getting possibly her first bath after the whelp. She is feeling more confident about leaving them alone for a bit longer, and then it will be okay to give her a bath and let her dry without having her wondering how her puppies are doing. She proudly shows them off and they start more of the play with each other as their legs become steady and running starts. They also start to get vocal at this stage as they learn and hear sounds coming from each other. 🙂
Cinnie is doing well in rounding up the litter while they are not sure at first about walking on grass, she encourages them to play. Under moms watchful eye they also get lots of child exposure at Cinnie’s house. Â This is the only litter that we don’t whelp, as the Olson family are good friends and can’t stand to be away from Cinnie. Â We don’t live far and check in with them and they have specific things that we do to properly socialize and raise a doodle. In a few weeks the puppies will be weaned naturally by Cinnie and then they will come to our home to finish their puppy rearing by being socialized by a larger pack.
But the next week is unfolding. This is one of my favorite weeks coming the puppy run and more of their spirit starts to emerge and you see more of each puppy personality as they explore their world even further and begin to become a bit more independent.
More coming soon from my phone, until then, enjoy!
